Good Girl Treat

Lili had been good. That's why we celebrated it with a Pizza Treat and more.. Actually, I was hungry, that was just an excuse, lol.. But seriously, Lili had been good that is why I allowed her to choose where we will go to eat. Her answer will always be at Jollibee, but it was packed when we were there at that time. Then she decided she wants to eat pizza, and off we went to Pizza Hut at the other building from where we were previously.

Happy pose before eating dessert..

What to Cook, What Gift to Give..

>> Tuesday, March 9, 2010

My mom's birthday is on the 16th. The same day, she and my father will celebrate their 35th wedding anniversary. I am now busy listing down foodies to prepare for their anniversary dinner. At the same time, I am planning what to get for this celebration.

I dropped by www.posylane.com and I saw the lovely personalized bowls that my mom is sure to love. There are also the lovely personalized pillowcases that I am wanting for myself, and a pink nap mat for Lili. Hmm, they have such lovely pieces and gift ideas.

For the food, well, I am actually planning of an out of the house celebration, because two days after is also my birthday. Hmm. That would be if I can not think of what food to cook..

Hostels

>> Saturday, February 20, 2010

Have you ever tried checking in at one of the many Hostels around town? Well, I haven't but a few of my friends say that Hostel Accommodation is much more liberating than that of a hotel. Why? Well, even if you don't read Hostel Reviews, you would know that one can save a lot in a hostel than a hotel, and still get money's worth translated into more things to buy or more food to taste with the saving at hand.. Of course, that is actually why hostels came about..

Research Papers About Food

I wonder how a research paper about food would come out.. I am actually looking into food sample research papers online from time to time to check on them. Unfortunately, I have not found anything that's free. I found one but it's for a fee, hmm. At least cheap research papers about food are available.. That's better than those that are really very expensive..

And speaking of expensive, I just arrived from the grocery and guess what? Everything is expensive! Actually I am no longer shocked about that fact. Prices of commodities have been increasing every time.. Ha! Enough with that. So now I can go about my daily chore. I am baking a cake today. Want some?

>> Sunday, February 14, 2010

Actually this is not how I wanted my MAIS CON YELO.. I like it simple.. Lots of sweet corn on a tall glass, with lots of cream and condensed milk, and ice..

Anyway, I still like this presentation of Mais con Yelo since it was really very warm this afternoon.. It's yummy..

Be Indestructible!

>> Friday, February 12, 2010

I always wonder if it's possible to Be Indestructible! Having to work in a kitchen always proves that we are not. Most often we experience cuts, burns and bruises even when we are only slicing and preparing our food. Hmm. Maybe it is not true to everyone, but at some point, especially when one is yet starting to venture into the kitchen adventure, these unfortunate experiences somehow shape our kitchen experience.. Hmm.. Just thinking out loud guys.. Don't mind me...

Public hospitals lack medicine due to budgetary constraints. Of course, patients who come from really poor families do not have any option, not even to buy soma online without prescription. But for those who can afford, no prescription soma and tramadol is easy to acquire.

Anyway,  a friend of mine told me that they will be having a soup kitchen to feed those watchers at the public hospital and invited me and my blog to witness their activity. Well, as a supporter for Food Donations Act of 2009, I am one with them. I agreed to go with them and blog about their activity afterward.

On another note, we have lots of Molo Wrapper left from yesterday's dinner. We had Siomai and actually, we still have lots of meat and wrapper left that we haven't cooked yet. So tomorrow, we will have Pansit Molo for breakfast.
Do you know how Pansit Molo is made? Actually, I do not know the recipe, but my father who originates from Ilo-ilo, where Pansit Molo is known for, taught me.

Below are the ingredients and procedures:

Ingredients :

Ground lean pork
1 onion, finely chopped
1 carrot, grated
1/8 c. of finely chopped onion leaves
1/4 tsp. of finely grated ginger
1/2 tsp. of soy sauce
1 tsp. of salt
1/2 tsp. of pepper
1 egg, beaten
6-8 c. of meat or chicken broth
1 tbsp. of cooking oil
1 tbsp. of minced garlic
1 onion, sliced
chopped onion leaves for garnishing
salt and pepper to taste
100 pcs. of wonton (siomai) wrapper (sizes vary)

Cooking procedure :

Mix all ingredients. Put a teaspoonful at the center of each wonton (siomai) wrapper. Set aside.

Heat the cooking oil in a large saucepan and saute the garlic until golden. Add the sliced onion and pour in the broth and bring to a boil. Drop the siomai dumplings, one at a time.

When the broth starts to boil, lower the heat, cover and simmer for 12 minutes. Serve with sprinkled  chopped onion leaves . Best when hot. Add pepper if desired.

Buddy Gancenia Videos: Truly Inspiring!

>> Monday, January 25, 2010

It's my friend Lizzy's birthday next month and her wedding day is set on the same day as well. We are now at the orange house to finalize the food that will be catered by another friend of ours, as well as the food that she'd like me and her sister to prepare. It's actually a simple family and friends wedding of sorts, where the reception will only be held at their home in Pueblo. Anyway, while I was whipping us the snacks, Prizzy and Lizzy are busy website hopping. Of course, it's me who suggested to look at the net for reference. We always find good ideas over the Internet. So they found the website below:

We all know that Buddy Gancenia is one of the best corporate, events, wedding videographer in the Philippines. He is known for his great talent and skill in making a corporate video as well as a great wedding video. I was talking to my friend Lizzy about how she wants her wedding video to be done and of course, I had to mention to her the great videos I saw on you tube. Of course, they are Buddy's as well. When it is Buddy Gancenia, you are assured of the best video coverage.

See the video below:

Anyway, it took like forever to decide on the food. But with the video coverage, Lizzy have already fallen for the craft of Buddy Gancenia.. Imagine her, a tall brown eyed lady with an almost strict expression, crying over the video we saw above.. Even my hearty egg salad and cheese sandwiches were not able to stop her, lol..

THE POOR MAN'S PANSIT..

>> Wednesday, January 20, 2010

This pansit was cooked using the wet pansit instead of the dried Pansit that you can buy from the grocery and have been stored for quite awhile.. Wet or the fresh pansit is usually bought only at the market.. It's usually called the poor man's pansit because it take less time to cook and can be cooked with less ingredients. It is salty so it needs less additives.. But cooking this kind of pansit is tricky. It still entails expertise. If one does not know how to cook this kind of pansit, the dish will become dull and less of a treat.. On the contrary, some restaurants use this pansit, but like what I said, it entails expertise to create a delicious masterpiece out of this kind..

My sister sweet has mastered this so the pansit guisado we had rocked...

TUNA STEW

This recipe utilizes the use of Tuna instead of Beef. The process is the same but the beef is substituted for health reasons.. We usually buy our Tuna from CITRAMINA, and if you are on a budget, you can actually get a cheaper packet of Tuna by buying CRAZY CUTS... At home, we usually use the said kind because we can reinvent any Tuna dish according to our imagination.. But of course, if we cook for a party dish, we stick by the cut that is supposed to be used for a specific dish.. Packet is more expensive but it makes it perfect, as the cut also matters..

RADISH SUMMER SALAD

>> Saturday, January 16, 2010

I have loved this new recipe of Radish Salad. The old recipe is not as exciting as this new one, thanks to Carmen..

All you will need are the following ingredients:

  • Radish
  • Tomato
  • Calamansi
  • salt and pepper to taste
The secret is in how you squeeze out all the water from the radish after thinly slicing them.. Mix all ingredients and voila, you have a refreshing side dish...

FISH IS IN....

>> Thursday, January 14, 2010

My father is advised by Dr. Edmilao to go through an all white fish diet since in the latest check up yesterday, it was found that his system could very slowly digest hard to digest foods like red meat and others... So I guess that explains why we have packs of white cobbler and all other white fish meats in our refrigerator...
It is rich in OMEGA 3, and low in fat.. And it is easier to digest. As we grow older, that should be our substitute diet.. No more oily foods, no more chocolates, nuts.. Oh my goodness... I feel like dying if it were me.. But if we are to choose between our cravings and health and longevity to enjoy more of life, then all this sacrifices will be worth it..

Ah.. Another sermon is about to be heard from my dad.. But he never said anything.. He simply said that FISH is IN, so I should also follow through so I would lose weight..

CREAMY & CHEESY POTATO SALAD

>> Tuesday, January 12, 2010

Sorry for the blurry image guys. I just took these two images using my cellular phone. My digicam is still in Kodak Hospital and with the quotation given, I think I will just have to buy a new one, lol...

Anyway, here is my version of Potato Salad...

What I used as ingredients are the many untouched ingredients inside our refrigerator at the orange house. They are yet part of the New Year preps that may go stale if not used.

  • half quezo de bola
  • 1 carrot, diced
  • 7 small potatoes, boiled
  • half large Chinese onion, diced
  • left over cream, Magnolia all Purpose (go lite) 1/4 of the tetra pack
  • 3 tablespoon candied pineapples, diced
Here's what I did:

  1. I grated the half Quezo de Bola,
  2. crushed (I only used 2 forks and not a masher) the boiled potatoes in a bowl,
  3. added the diced Chinese onion and the carrots
  4. added the grated cheese
  5. added the cream and folded the mixture
  6. added the pineapples..
  7. added a little salt and a little pepper to taste...
So there, my own version of Potato Salad.. This is a very lovely side dish with spicy chicken or fried chicken as the main dish. Actually, you can also have this as side dish for other fried foodies, I just happen to love fried chicken...

Enjoy...

FOODIE GIFTS

>> Saturday, January 9, 2010

Last Christmas we received lots of foodie gifts. It seems more reasonable and filling too, lol... But of course, it is always nice to get a personalized duffle bag, or a laundry bag and even an insulated lunch tote inside your gift box. But then again, nothing can compare to a freshly baked apple pie or fruit cake or even a single layer of Chocolate Moist Cake. Yum yum...
