Pastel de Pots

>> Sunday, July 4, 2010

A friend of mine from the US came home and asked for Pastel de Pots. Hmm.. You must think that Pastel here in Cagayan de Oro City is just Vjandep. Well, we are blessed here with two, actually three, but one is simply home based and not sold for commercial purposes.
Pastel de Pots is Pots and Pans pride, and soon perhaps, Cagayan de Oro City's as well,  just as the other two are Camiguin's pride... soon, it may compete in the market as people continue to seek and try it. Well, I have tried it and it's actually very good.

I saw this pastel and learned about Pastel de Pots a few weeks ago, at Chef Ed Dychauco's FB and when I  asked him to be featured in this food blog as one of Cagayan de Oro City's foodies, he invited me at his shop, Pots and Pans.  I am sure you know him and perhaps, you may have also seen him on television or in the malls doing cooking demos or judging food related contests. He is actually one of  the Philippines'  celebrity Chefs, and proudly, he is a Kagay-anon.
So while there, I bought a box and even got to sample Chef Ed's freshly baked Cream Puff and a piece of  Pastel.  I must tell you, the bread and the filling is to die for. Sweet, but not too sweet filling on a very soft bread.. Olala.. Quite frankly, I did not expect that Pastel de Pots, being new in the market, already has developed a following.. My friend Eliza told me that they were able to get hold of a box the last time her brother came home, and brought some back to the US. Apart from the not so sweet filling that most diet conscious Pastel eaters would love, the bun remains fresh even after a few days. Mind you, Chef Ed told me, there is no preservatives used. It's all natural.. And you can actually taste its freshness..
For just P 120 you will get 12 huge  Pastel buns inside the sturdy box.. My friend Eliza likes the durable box for long travels, delicious food inside it remains fresh--

Anyway, if you wish to order or buy some Pastel de Pots, see the contact details on the image of the box above..

Gold Coins & Chocolate Coins..

>> Thursday, June 24, 2010

As a child, I have always had a fascination for Gold Coins. Chocolate coins that is. Buying them at the grocery or even at the sari sari store is like buying real cold coins. Well, they looked real enough when I was younger, can you blame me? Besides, money whilst young is confined to foodies and candies to which they enable me to afford. Most times, it's my mom that pays for them, lol.. But if I am to buy gold eagle coins, a rare kind of gold coins, I am sure it will give me the same pleasure and happiness as how my Goya chocolate coins once made me feel..

Hmm.. What is it about gold that even kids are enticed by them? Chocolate or no chocolate, gold will be gold. As most gold investors would point out, the value of gold appreciates unlike other forms of investments that depreciates in value..

Anyway, check out this pack of gold coins..

Wouldn't it be a great loot if instead of chocolate they are all real gold coins? I wish, lol.. But then, who could resist chocolates after the gold wrappings are taken off???

Pupil Distance and Food

>> Wednesday, June 23, 2010

Last Sunday, Father's Day, we had a simple lunch at home. We had Crabs in coconut with Lupu leaves from Ilo-ilo, and this really good pickled Papaya with Bitter Gourd and String Beans. That's a different way of preparing Atchara.. My Tita Ging2x in Ilo-ilo made it and sent some when my parents and party left along with some Lupu leaves that only grows in Ilo-ilo.
Well, see the pictures? You do not need to have PD measured just to appreciate how mouth watering they are. And by God's grace, they are indeed  good. Not just in pictures but for real.. Too bad, they are all gone now, lol..

SLERS HAM & CAFE

>> Thursday, June 17, 2010

Sweet and I went to buy a few things in preparation for Lili's birthday, as well as submitted some documents that my school has required of me.  We got hungry, and so, since SLERS Ham and Cafe was just across the street, we went and helped ourselves to our favorite sandwiches..
Sweet had her usual SLERS Classic Jamon Sandwich (above), and I got my favorite SLERS Beef Pastrami Sandwich (below)..with a cup of  Lemonade for each of us.
The SLERS Classic Jamon and the SLERS Beef Pastrami Sandwiches are bit salty so if you do not like it that way, you can actually order other kinds of sandwiches.. The  SLERS Grilled Ham and Cheese may just be right for you, so feel free to try it..
If you are not from Cagayan de Oro City, you can actually purchase goodies from the  SLERS Pasalubong Stand for your friends and relatives back home..

So while you choose what to get from the SLERS Pasalubong Stand, enjoy your food at the comfortable dining area. If you bring your laptop, you can go ahead and surf the net..since WIFI is FREE for P 100 plus purchase..

You can also choose any of the best selling SLERS Hams from the Ham Freezer..
Wanna see what's inside???
And of course, the counter with the friendly staff.. The staff can give you whatever information or whatever you need them to do for your stay to be memorable..
And oh, look at how delicious looking those Ensaimadas are.. Not SLERS but a consigned product, I was told. Actually, they have lots of consigned products at the stand..

The food they will serve their patrons:
Below is a group's order to be delivered at another office nearby.. Yup, they can deliver in the neighboring offices, so do inquire if that's what you want..
For more information, check out the flier I got after paying for our food..

I hope this post is helpful enough..

Tres Hijos in Passi City

My parents and father's relatives went to another relative's food place and they had a great time at the Tres Hijos in Passi City. The place is known to local tourists and Passi visitors for their healthy and delicious food.
Below were some of  Tres Hijos' specialty that everyone enjoyed:
Above photo is Tres Hijos Tinolang Manok prepared and cooked in the way of the Ilonggos.. This is what Tres Hijos is actually known for.. And of course, the rest of the foodies below are also their house specialties..
Above and below photos, complete opposites. But both are nutritiously prepared.

They surely enjoyed the food.. My parents happily recounted..
They had a wonderful lunch at a very comfortable location..Thanks to Tatay for taking pictures to share with us and to my readers here. Tres Hijos in Passi City is a good place to visit again according to Tatay and Nanay..

Panlasang Pinoy Inter-school Culinary Cook Off Challenge

>> Tuesday, June 15, 2010

While my team and I were at LimKetKai Mall, Big R and the Lapasan area promoting The Search for the Toughest Jobs, Mommy Phebie's Team were at SM and so they were able to take a glimpse of the Panlasang Pinoy Inter-School Culinary Cook Off Challenge, or at least some scenes. Unfortunately, the photo that was taken was a bit blurry, and since they were also in a hurry to head on to the Airport, we never had a chance to look at the event that we missed, even in photos. Good thing it was a holiday yesterday, and I had a chance to spend an afternoon with Chef Dychauco, the chairman of the board of judges for the said event. He showed me the photos he was able to capture and even discussed with me how the cook off went about.. Uhm.. I missed it! But, am glad I have seen the photos, so still, I learned who won, and how the judging went.. It was a close fight between STI and Liceo de Cagayan University..
Here are some of the photos Chef Dychauco shared with me..

Below were the Board of Judges:

Chef Jacob Borja, DOLE representative, and Chef Ed Dychauco

You can find the rest of Chef Ed's photos  HERE.

College Degrees Today

Is anyone here still in a major crisis of finding the college degree that would fit his or her interests and aspirations? Perhaps, a little more effort is needed to research college degrees that will be reflective of what he or she wants to do after College. Anyway, I started my search for Cagayan de Oro Foodies and much to my surprise, there are many of them here in our backyard. Some are even professionals of a different field, who just happens to love culinary arts, thus the pursuit of the long time career as a chef, instead of doing something else. I know of some friends who made it in a different endeavor instead of their won niche.  Well, it's all about being comfortable sometimes, but most times, being happy at what we do.

Anyway, in relation with what I have said above, some people may have dealt with the challenges to pursue and pass a specific endeavor, but only to find success in another. So in order to minimize this from ever happening again to some other individuals, CollegeDegreesToday opened its doors to provide a comprehensive guide to finding the right accredited college or university that one may decide to enroll in. They have education partners that have been carefully selected from the top online schools as well, as campus based schools in the country. Today’s competitive workforce, needs to maximize career and the earning potential and a college degree is essential to achieve this.
